WELCOME TO KES'2003

The seventh conference in the very successful KES series will be held at Oxford - UK, one of the most famous university and cultural sites in the world as well as one of the most popular tourist destinations in England. The conference attracts papers on Intelligent Systems and Techniques, Applications of Intelligent Techniques and related areas within Information Technology and Advanced Internet Technologies. KES'2003 will consist of plenary sessions, and contributory sessions on the theory and applications of various intelligent techniques, including but not limited to the following topics of interest and areas of application:-

SESSIONS

KES conferences have two types of session, General Sessions and Invited Sessions. Papers on topics of general relevance to the conference will be presented at the General Sessions.  Submission for the General Sessions is now closed

Invited Sessions are organised and chaired by scientists who have a special interest in the topic of the session.

Organisers of Invited Sessions undertake to:-

Scientists who would like to organise one or more Invited Sessions are invited to submit their proposals to the KES Secretariat. A list of Invited Sessions being organised is available.

CONFERENCE PAPERS AND PROCEEDINGS

The conference proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag in Lecture Notes in AI as part of the LNCS/LNAI series.   Please refer to the Springer-Verlag web site for directions on the Final Paper Format which must be strictly followed for all papers that are to appear in the proceedings.

The Editors of the Proceedings are V.Palade, R.J.Howlett and L.C.Jain.

Please note that papers should be no longer than seven pages.  Papers longer than this will be subject to an additional page charge.  All oral and poster papers must be presented by one of the authors who must register and pay fees.


GENERAL SESSION PAPERS

The submission deadline for draft General Session papers is now closed.

INVITED SESSION PAPERS

The review process for Invited Session Papers is handled by the Chair of the Invited Session.  Please send papers for review direct to the Invited Session Chair, not to the KES Secretariat at Brighton or Oxford.  The Invited Session Chair will have the papers reviewed and then send all the final papers, copyright forms and floppy disc / CD-ROM for the session to the KES Secretariat in one batch.

How to submit your Final Manuscript for an Invited Session

Authors must not send papers for Invited Sessions direct to the KES Secretariat at Brighton or Oxford.


REVIEW OF PAPERS

To ensure high quality, all papers will be thoroughly reviewed by KES2003 Programme Committee. A revised Referees Evaluation Form may be downloaded from here.

JOURNAL PUBLICATIONS

Extended versions of selected papers will be considered for publication in the KES Journal (International Journal of Knowledge-Based Intelligent Engineering Systems) and the Journal of Intelligent and Fuzzy Systems (published by IOS Press).

PAST PROCEEDINGS

We have small stocks of proceedings from KES'2000, KES'2001 and KES'2002 at favourable prices.  Please contact the KES Secretariat at the University of Brighton if you are interested in purchasing these.

We welcome colleagues from overseas with an interest in the subject of the conference.  If you are coming from outside the UK and require visa information, we recommend that you visit the official site of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office at http://visa.fco.gov.uk.  This site features an on-line Visa Enquiry Form enabling you to find out instantly if you need a visa or not. If you do need a visa it will provide you with links to the forms you need to fill out and contact details for your nearest British Embassy, High Commission or Consultate.

If you require a letter confirming that your paper has been accepted please contact the KES Secretariat at the University of Brighton and this can be sent to you by post or fax; please specify which you would like.

If you need a letter confirming your registration, the KES Secretariat can do this for you as well; however these will only be issued after a delegate has registered for the conference and payment has been received.  There can be no exceptions to this and no letters confirming registration will be issued before payment has been received.

* Notification of acceptance: CLOSED (was 1 April 2003)
* Final papers to reach KES Secretariat by: 1 May 2003

For Special/Invited Sessions:-
* Deadline for the receipt of Proposals for Special/Invited Sessions or Workshops: CLOSED (was 1 March 2003).
* If you have been invited to contribute a paper for a Special/Invited Session, please contact the Session Chair for deadlines relating to these papers.
* Final papers for Special/Invited Sessions should be sent by the Session Chair so as to reach the KES Secretariat by 1 May 2003.

All presenting authors (both General and Special/Invited Sessions) must register with payment by
1 June 2003
for their papers to appear in the proceedings.

CONFERENCE VENUE

KES2003 is hosted at St Anne’s College, University of Oxford, UK.  Oxford has many places of cultural interests with centuries of history to unveil and it is well renowned as a seat of learning and traditions for over 800 years.  With its honey-gold buildings, traditional colleges, river setting and gardens, Oxford is one of the most famous tourist attractions in England. It is located in a wonderful setting about 80km north-west of London and about 60km from Heathrow international airport. Oxford is excellently served by road and train networks that give instant and direct access to all London airports as well as to other big international airports and important attractions in England. Low cost accommodation will be provided in student study-rooms, or there are many good-quality hotels in the city.

Delegates will be invited to a conference reception for a formal welcome in the renowned Ashmolean Museum.  In addition, there will be a conference banquet in a traditional Oxford college.
